"Girl, kudos to you. I can't wait to see how those hoity toity society puppets will react to you." Sydney snickered.
A trickle of unease curled its way down my spine. He’d said that before, and I’d forgotten. You just don’t remember me. He paused. But I remember you. We briefly met, right after I was freed. You were so sick.
A weird sensation unfurled in the pit of my stomach as I saw Mom draw her leg up.You reeked of death. His head tilted. What did they do to you? I guess we’ll find out soon enough. There was no warning. He moved fast, his arm and hand striking out. The impact of his fist sent me sprawling to the floor. The burst of pain stunned me and the taste of iron filled my mouth.
I don’t like doing that, he said. I really don’t.I rolled onto my side and spat out a mouthful of blood. My teeth had cut the inside of my cheek. Heart pounding, I lifted my head as my hand dragged over my backpack.
I ripped open the front pocket of my backpack and reached around until my finger slipped over the slim device.
I would like to say it’s not personal. He gripped the back of my shirt and lifted me clear off the floor with one arm. But it is. He chose you over us—over me."You." A deep male voice said from above them. Elizabeth turned and looked up. At the top of the stairs was the most gorgeous man she had ever seen. He was tall, but lean with broad shoulders that tapered off to a narrow waist. Dark hair fell carelessly around his shoulders in waves. But it was his grey eyes that captivated her, the intensity in his gaze mesmerized her. It was as if she could see the weight of ages in his eyes. When they shifted from eternal grey to red she swallowed hard.
His movements were a blur as he flew down the stairs. He backed her up against the door caging her in with his arms on either side."Gavriel! Man! What the hell?" Colton yelled.
"Leave us!" the dark haired man demanded."No way. Get your shit together." Colton said as he tried to wedge himself between them. Her body reacted to Colton's interference. She didn't want to move away from this dark stranger. When she inhaled, it dawned on her that this man was a vampire and he was her mate.
